The BIM workflow

Magnitude of uncertainty can be reduced by using 3D models. The sub-contractors, when provided with 3D visualization, can use them to understand the complexity of the space.

The teams develop their respective trade 3D models from the design, with the help of 3D visualization(VDC - Virtual Design Construction) team. These models are then refined over iterations to create a construction ready model.

The teams use a common platform to host the combined models where the revisions can be posted throughout the project life cycle to have closest representation ready for the construction.

This model can be used for creating 4D, rendered visualization, mock-ups, virtual reality, augmented reality etc. See attached info-graphic for different BIM services possible throughout a construction project life cycle. A LOD 500 model can be used for fabrication in the factory. These construction models can also be referred by installation team for accurate measurements and location of installation.

The availability of accurate and detailed model allows stakeholders to set a common expectation. The missing information may be seek from respective party. The effort can thus be estimated accurately and sequencing of installation can be done. The work packages can be defined hence for efficient construction. These are few highlights of the BIM workflow and how it can help to evolve into a better construction process.
